A Birthday Surprise: 2/13 – 19 WRD

It’s so rare that we have nice weather for my birthday. Of course I spent a lot of it in the car, but not having to do all the driving is always a treat — and the next day was Spring-like. We are back to Winter-like temps today, but it was amazing how much energy I had with those few sunny days. Unfortunately it drained away fairly quickly.

I’m joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner and even running outside a couple of times.

Running Update

Definite feeling like a turtle right now

Thursday intention: break up with treadmill (briefly)
The first part of the week blessed us with some beautiful sunshine that recharged my batteries. Yes this was a very slow run. It felt great at first, and just a little difficult in the second mile. I’ve been n the rebuilding phase before, though, so I know I’ll get back to longer runs that feel easier.

Friday intention: keep going easy
When the radar showed no rain until 10 am, I had fantasies of doing a recovery run outside. Except it started pouring at 8 am. I got back on the treadmill and found another annoying feature of the You Can Run Peloton program — it holds you to their schedule. Because I needed more rest in the beginning of the week, it had “kindly” skipped the next run and moved me on a week.

Except that’s not what I wanted. I had to dig deep to actually be able to do the next run in the program. Having run yesterday, I wanted to do the easier, shorter run today.

These two geese were loud. Apparently the lookouts for the large flock further down the path.

Sunday intention: get away from pavement
This river path has been vastly shortened, which made it perfect for an easy 2 mile run. It was a bit chilly, but I got it done — later in the day would get warmer, but windier.

Birthday cactus still going strong

Favorites of the week
The weather, hands down. At least the first part of the week — warm and sunny. Wish it would stick around longer, but happy to see the sun for a bit.

It’s tempting to take a break from going to my mom on my birthday, but great weather & how many more birthdays will I be able to spend with her?

It was a quick visit to my mom. We brought pizza again — she wants it but then is never really satisfied with it. I tried. She did love the roses I brought, and a few other things she’d requested. Plus I actually got her outside, briefly.

Of course I left some time to visit a new portion of the Ashokan Reservoir (the Promenade)

I’d been having trouble finding this portion of the Ashokan Reservoir, but Mr. Judy was able to get it on the GPS so we went on to the Promenade for a quick walk before heading home (and losing the daylight).

Celebrated the even warmer weather the next day with a hot beverage, reading, & Yoga outside

I really enjoyed actually being able to spend some time outdoors the next day! We broke a record that day.

ICYMI: Lots of hip opening . Practice with me here.

Coming up on Friday: Maybe I’ll recap January? It’s been a while since I recapped anything!

  1. I am so glad you had great weather for your birthday. Your mom looks great!!! We are lucky to still have them, aren’t we?

What are those mountains in the background of your promenade photo?

  2. I’m glad you had a good birthday, and I’m sure you wont’ regret spending it with your mom.

You know I love Peloton, but I think the rigidity of their programs sucks. I never try the longer ones because I can’t commit to THEIR schedule for more than a week at a time.

  3. We all had a little warm up this week! It is nice to have great weather on your birthday. I am sure your mom really appreciates spending your birthday together. Some of the Peloton programs do have a rigid schedule which is annoying

    1. Yes, that rigidity was super annoying! I mean, what if you got sick and had to take time off?

It was such great weather earlier in the week. Now back to the normal gray, cold, & windy. I made the most of the good weather though!

  4. Happy Birthday. I would find that annoying the program skipping ahead. I am one that likes to do things in order. The sunshine this week has been delightful. I’m glad you got to soak some of it up.

  5. I’m glad you had a nice day with your mom for your birthday! I bet that meant a lot to her as well 🙂 We had a crazy week of roller coaster weather with winter-like cold (and snow) and spring-like melting (and mud). At least I’m hopeful the worst of the cold is behind us…

  6. It sounds like you had a lovely birthday, Judy, even if it involved a lot of time in the car. How nice to have Mr. Judy accompany you and share the driving. Your mom looks happy to have the sun on her face.

  7. It sounds like a great birthday- beautiful weather and the day spent with your mom (and pizza!) You’re right, you don’t know how many more birthdays you’ll get to spend with her so it’s worth it to make the effort now.
I love that photo of the Ashokan Reservoir!

  8. Looks like you had a fun birthday week complete with nice weather! Our February here has been mostly mind as well but we haven’t gotten anywhere 60 degrees. Amazing. I feel like the worst of winter is behind us now. I hope I’m right!
