Whether you love or hate Summer running, it’s no secret that this Summer has been tough on runners in my neck of the woods. What can make it easier? How do you know when you’re really ready for a harder run?

I runfess . . .
I laid out some purple running shoes the night before a run. I thought they were my Sauconys, but they were Newtons and at least a couple of years old. I ran in them the next day because I didn’t want to wake Mr. Judy and all was fine.
I runfess . . .
I sometimes do strides at the end of a run so I can rest a bit more. Because I run hard for about 200m, pause my Garmin, and then I walk back. Somehow it makes the whole run seem easier (and faster).
I runfess . . .
I wanted to wear my Garmin the day after I got it, but Mr. Judy made me wait because he’d just put the watch protector on it. Did you know they make them for watches? I didn’t the last time I got a new one and scratched it that very first week — it never became a problem, but I still wanted to protect my investment this time.

I runfess . . .
I am kind of obsessed with the Body Battery statistic on my Garmin. I know, I know, most of you probably never look at it if your watch has it. I think it’s a nice stat to help you decide if you’ve really recovered (or are doing too much). Obviously I don’t just go by this, but I find it useful information.
I runfess . . .
As usual I am enjoying (sort of) my short runs this Summer. Although I am not enjoying Summer running!

I have very old running shoes. I don’t care about weekly runs but I do do my races in newer shoes.
No time for stats. I’m glad to just run and run and run. I won’t complain about how little sleep I get these days.
I did have a protector on my old Apple Watch and phones. Not this time.
Summer running is hard. My last two were after work. Almost 90. High humidity. Zero fun. I didn’t die though I felt like it.

Usually I donate my old shoes but for a while it was harder. I don’t think those shoes were used that much but the tread seems worn.

Because I am not in training, the heat is not bothering me. My shady trails are cooler and I walk when I want to, not worried one bit about pace. That takes all the pressure off so I just enjoy a good sweat and my time outdoors.

I’m pretty sensitive to heat in general; always have been. Unfortunately not a huge amount of shade in my neighborhood & lately I’m getting eaten by mosquitoes when I stop!

I did not know watch protectors existed…though it makes sense.
I like the Body Battery stat too!
Running has been especially taxing this summer – the humidity is definitely taking more out of me!

It’s definitely been a tough summer to run, unless you’re one of the people who prefer the heat!
Love the body battery. I was surprised I got mine up to 100 last night. Usually I fall asleep easily but not last night, although ultimately I slept well.

Grr, summer running- I don’t want to talk about it. ; )
So you have a pair of Newtons? I had Newtons for a while and they were the most comfortable shoes ever. They definitely have a nice wide toe box. Maybe I should try them again- I can’t remember now why I switched.
Strides are great! Maybe instead of doing 400 repeats (which are stressing out my shin) I should just add strides to the end of my runs. They’re nice and short, but it still feels good to run fast.

I used to run in Newtons & loved them. Couldn’t really justify the cost when I wasn’t running & racing so much.
I love my strides! I always say I can run “fast” for short amounts of time.

Watch protectors! I should look into getting one. Although I’ve had my Garmin for over a year, and the face looks brand new (still), I probably shouldn’t tempt fate, right? I have several pairs of older shoes that I sometimes wear for short runs (2-3 miles). I definitely wouldn’t wear them for races or long distances, but for a quick short run, sure.

I just knocked it against a counter, I think & it got scratched pretty good. Never had trouble with my first two watches. They’re not a lot of money, though.

I did not know there was a watch protector for the Garmin hmm. I don’t pay too much attention to the body battery maybe I should. I feel like I have so much data coming in!

Some watches tell you how much recovery time you need (and I know pretty much everyone ignores that :); I don’t think mine does that. It’s also not on all Garmins. I like it. Easy enough to glance at it on the morning. Everyone does their own thing!

I get rid of most of my old shoes, the running store near us I think donates them … somewhere? I can’t leave my shoes out at the moment though because the kittens have destroyed my shoe laces lately. Cute. And Destructive.
I love all the stats on the garmin, but I don’t really understand the body battery. I never feel rested, BUT since June I get up earlier than i used to to walk before work, even if I’m walking later. My watch used to tell me I was unproductive (and in fact it did after I hobbled through the entire Chicago marathon), then later maintaining and for a couple of weeks even productive haha!

I usually donate my shoes, too, but it’s been a while (obviously). Someday when we get another day, we could be in for a very rude awakening. While Bandit does have a thing for underwear & soaks, other than that (which can be managed) he’s not at all destructive.
I haven’t delved deeply into the body battery yet, so can’t explain it but I like it. Mine doesn’t tell me when I’m productive or not — and that’s a good thing!

I have a few pairs of shoes that are probably ready for an upgrade. After 8 months, they are pretty dead for running.
Summer running is garbage. That is all LOL.

Summer can be nice here, but in general July was rough weather wise!
